I was sleeping in a perfectly restless sleep (neighbors, 1st of the month) when Steph called me nearly hysterical at 1am this morning. She wanted to let me know first hand that there had been an accident in her neighborhood - as in next door. She didn't want me to find out through friends on facebook or whereever that all hell had broke loose right there next to her - thanks Steph.
You think when you live on a road off the main stream of traffic that you are safe. You are not. A pickup driver was drunk and/or drugged and drove through a concrete mailbox, 3 driveways, a metal lightpost, bounced off of other mailboxes (and cars?) then completely took out two cars - and freaking tried to drive off - tires spinning and all! Can you believe it?
He hit Steph's next door neighbors cars. They are a mess aren't they? Do you see the white pickup in this picture behind the other vehicles? That is Todd's (Steph's hubby) truck! Too close to home.
He hit with such force it knocked one vehicle into the other and pushed them into the garage.
Now take a look at the bricks the other side of the car antennae... That is a baby's room! Thank God he hit cars - the baby's room was right there - just a few feet away from harms way.
And finally the truck that made the mess:
I am so glad everyone we know is ok. I am not sure the pickup driver is - he was mumbling and laying on the ground holding his neck. They transported him to the hospital. At least he was concious, alive and gibberish was rolling from his mouth.
Thank God all is well at 2am. It could have been so much worse.
