We cruised around the block looking for the church it belonged to. In doing so, we found these sights:
Finally we found the steeple - attached firmly to an old treasure of a church:
His curiosity was well founded:
It was a beautiful building - an antique indeed. The church, with its tower, was constructed between 1869 - 1870!
St Peter and St Paul guarded its entrance:
Once inside, we noticed it is very old and needs work.
But it is beautiful even in its' old age. It still in service with a handful of people living within the walls of the grounds.
There was a choir practicing in the balcony where the pipe organ used to be:
The music from above was beautiful.
I am so glad for Steve's determination to find the church. It was probably my favorite experience of the entire weekend. Totally off the beaten path and well worth finding.
You can read more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Peter_and_St_Paul's_Church,_Singapore
The church is offering a book titled "Reverse" for $ S30.00 and the proceeds will go to the needy. If you are interested in getting the book, the number to call is 6337-2585.
The book starts at the back (reverse side) with a picture similar to the ones on the poster below. Each day there is someone on the folded page. You cut one folded page of the book open along the serated edge and it shows the rest of the (picture) story of the person on the front of that page. It is a very eye opening book - made to help us realize how less fortunate people in life live. I have opened 3 pages and it has certainly reminded me how blessed I am.
More adventures to come :-)
