Circle Line Phase 1 is OPEN!

Nearly two years ago, when we first moved to Singapore, Steve and I heard there would be a subway, known here as the MRT, passing near our place.  Of course, since we were only supposed to be here 2-4 months, we said "We will be long gone when it comes - too bad it won't do us any good!".  Guess what?  We are still here!

Steve and I were super excited that the part of the Circle Line that passes near our place held the grand opening yesterday, so we decided to check it out.  Off went went to Leisure Park (Stadium) link, thinking it was the closest to us.  When we arrived, we were pretty darned amazed to see this:

The escalators here are super long:

And look even longer from the bottom:

We expected the waiting area to catch the MRT to be chock full of people, but it wasn't so:

Even the subway itself was quiet with extra seats:

The new MRT's have windows on either end.  It was great watching from the front window:

We actually took the MRT two times round trip yesterday!  We found that the station nearest us is the Mountbatten station - so if you are coming here, now you know where to go.

Anyway, that is my excitement for today.  Lots of fun and excitement - we have our very own MRT (ok, not ours, but we feel like it) and we were indeed here to enjoy its opening!  A friend thinks the reason the MRT was so quiet was because everyone is waiting to see if it is safe.  It is safe folks - give it a try now  :-)

Steve documented my opening day visit  :-)

Off to take it a different way today  :-)

La-dee-da-and-toodly-doo!
