Steve and I have been in Pascagoula to finish the last project for the job he is leaving. We are supposed to be here for 2-3 weeks. Supposed to, I said.
Guess what? That was a pipe dream.
We came on February 27th, and right about now is when we should have been rounding up our stuff and moving back to Louisiana for the final tying up loose ends of this job.
Where are we in that process?
Let's see... oh, about February 28th. He has barely even started the job yet. The shipyard was dragging their feet, the company he is doing the job for doesn't have their sh*! together, and he has been basically twiddling his thumbs. Well, him and his crew have been.
The guys did get the beams in that the shipyard was supposed to do, and they packed up and left two days ago so the company could sand blast and paint the deck and the beams. He sent his crew home for a few days and here we sit.
We did have a wonderful 34th anniversary day yesterday - I had his undivided attention all day long. We caught up on what we needed to chat about on our dream home, drove around and enjoyed the area, he made a few phone calls and we grilled burgers for supper. See? We don't need much to be happy. We saw some great sights even!
Today, he went in to check the progress of the sand blasting and painting. When he came home, he informed me they started. Today they started. So he is off for another several days... probably Monday. THEN we might be able to start our 2-3 weeks. Gotta love offshore work, shipyards and lallygaggers. *sigh*
While we were out and about yesterday, we went to BAM (book store) and purchased 2 books on buying a home: One for dummies (me) and one for him. Lol... we have read through it, and are remembering some of the things we forgot about from years ago when we bought our last house. We want to be 'in the know' so we are fine tuning our house hunting skills. That is a good thing, right?
Today we started getting some of the stuff behind us to buy a house. I made a fancy smancy excel form of stuff to look at when we find homes we like - not the walk away ones, but ones we are seriously considering. (Yes, Shari, I will send it to you though I seriously doubt you need it. But you might have suggestions for it, right?). We read through some parts of our 'books of knowledge' and talked some more... a lot of decisions need to be made, right? Once we finally get to Oklahoma, I think we will hit the road running and I want to be prepared!
He contacted the relocation agent, she contacted a lender, who in turn called us and took our information - and promptly pre-approved us for a loan!! WHOOT! It might have been a tad too promptly though, ya know? That having been said, we are going to shop around and see if we can do better on interest rates. I think we might be able to with some shopping around and checking other lending institutions out. Do you know of a good one? PLEASE feel free to suggest one.
Speaking of suggesting, those of you in Tulsa, I need to know the names of a great bank there. Can you help?
We are now waiting on a real estate agent to call us back via the relocation agent's request (we chose the agent, but the company's relocation specialist needs to give her the details of our move) and tomorrow I will fine tune our wants, needs, and don't want or need in a 'dream home' list so it is ready to ship off the instant we hear from her.
So that is we have going on here. Steve needs a do nothing puzzle so he can occupy his time and think about everything he and his crew coulda had done if the company he is doing the job for had actually done THEIR job. Confused? Yeah, I thought so. Never mind, just send us a 'do nothing puzzle' and he can use it and pass it on to me when he heads out to actually do this never ending job. I have been doing nothing for 2.5 weeks in Mississippi this time.
The good thing about all this is we are heading to Louisiana for a couple of days this weekend. Punkin', Steph and I have a date to see Momma Mia! the play on Saturday. Sunday Steve wants to buy mudbugs and cook them - somewhere else. We shall see how that pans out.
We went to see my aunt and uncle 2 days ago. They live in southern Alabama and are very close to where we are - kinda like going from Singapore to Jahor Bahru Malasia for those of you on the flip side. We both love visiting with them! We had a great visit, went out to supper and just for the record? No, Uncle D, we did not put you to shame taking pictures! I can't wait to see yours - you have YEARS more experience that we do; that said in a very respectful good way. Love ya and loved being able to visit with you on this trip. I hope we get to do it again soon!
Aunt Carole and Uncle Danny
Maybe next time, we won't take a wrong turn:
But it was totally worth the trip to Florida and back - not only to see my aunt and uncle, but to see this in their home.
My wonderful paternal grandparents, Vernon and Saydee (grands) and the pride of the neighborhood 6"-8" Peace roses. Ahhhh the memories! *warm fuzzies*
Kimberly T? Yes, you girly! I see you smiling! Will you please send a 'wave' to us? Let us know what is going on in your world. We sure do miss you and the flip side! ♥♥((hugs))♥♥ KT is one of our 'kids'. Why is it some of 'our kids' don't keep in touch with us? Lol...
Yes, I love the rest of you too, but I keep up with most everyone else. I do a good job of that; except the ones that write in Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Puruvian (is that a language?) Russian, French, Italian, Norwegian... now who did I forget? Anyway, sorry, I can't figure those notes out for the life of me. But Google translator does a good job of trying! Do you hear me complaining? I certainly don't chat in your language, so I don't expect you to chat in mine, k? Just sayin'... ;-) but I do 'see' you! What says the K girl, why don't I see you?? Hmmmm??
Now you are up to date again. I am so ready for this all to be behind us, but I am still looking at that light at the end of the tunnel.
But will someone please turn off the treadmill I am running on?? I would love to get TO the light!
