Row, Row, Row...

We have the rows in the garden all tilled, mounded and ready to go!

Steve is loving his tractor!

In fact, so am I  :-)

How did they do it 'way back then'?

Here are my plans before the tilling was done...

See the 5 rows?

Yeah, we have 8 now... so back to the drawing board - but I am so thankful we have so much space to put our garden.  It is 32 x 48 FEET!  WHOOT!

Gotta go work some more!

Spring Plantings

Busy, busy, busy!  That is all I have to say about Spring.  Well, not really...  you know I have to say more, right?

When we bought our house it was very bland - not a flower to be seen around the yard.  I love flowers; I love all flowers, but I especially love the ones that have a scent like this bearded iris... oh.  my... gosh!

So we had to get busy... and plant flowers...

But before we could do that, Steve and I had decided on some trees we wanted on our property, so we had to get a game plan on that and start planting so they can start growing.  We got several trees:

This is an Autumn  Blaze Maple Tree:

We dug a huge hole (8ft by 8ft) that was 2 feet deep - thank God we had a tractor to help - and Steve is getting really good at using that thing!

We took the dirt out with the tractor, weeded the grass out, then added the dirt back with the tractor.

We were super happy when that job was done - and exhausted!  The tree is about 10-12 feet high and looks like it is doing great!

We strategically placed it so when it grows up it will shade the patio.  We have lots of trees, just none to shad the patio from the west:

I removed that ugly black fence from around our porch and spruced up the garden there:

We planted 12 small trees that the Arbor Foundation sent us!  We have been super busy in the yard.

We planted 60 gladiolas last night and have 30 left to plant.  Whoever picked up that big bag of glad bulbs for a great price at Sam's shoulda looked at how many were in it!  NINETY bulbs!  Yikes!

And I found an Green Country Oklahoma gardening site on Facebook that is gonna be the death of me.  I can buy, trade, pick up or beg for plants... and get them!  I got about a dozen free orange cannas last week!

I shoulda never found that site - I can see our 20 acres filling up quite quickly...

We are going to try to get our garden planted this weekend!  I know it seems quite late for you southerners, but most people here in Oklahoma say don't plant your veggies until after Easter.  I figure Easter is a time for new beginnings, so I am gonna plant this weekend.  Can't wait to see our garden grow!  We have been busy bees - and we're gonna be busy for another few weeks...

Being busy pays off though:

More on the rest of the trees next post...

Why We Love New Orleans... The Characters!

Well, I did it...  I upoaded that jazzy video to When The Saints Video!   (Click on it!)
I love listening to the sounds of the quarter!  Isn't it fun?  Hope you have loved listening to the sounds of New Orleans as much we did!

Now the other fun stuffs... Why we love New Orleans... Getting tired of why we love it yet?   We love New Orleans because of the characters...

Oh, the characters!

Ahhh, you wanted to see the pictures through non-drunken eyes??  Really?  He wasn't worth seeing - TRUST me!

And did I say the fun?  Lol...

Ok, so here he is - but clearly -  he still wasn't worth seeing!

Are you ready to visit New Orleans yet?

Today we are off to Okmulgee Spillway - we had over 8" of rain last week so I am sure it is spilling over - we want my sister's kids to see it!  And of course, we packed a picnic lunch to eat at the rock house... are you curious?  Pictures tomorrow, k?

Awww, New Oleans... The Music!

I tried to upload a great video of some guys playing music in the quarter - but it must have been too long.

Here is another entertainer playing... the music in the French quarter is worth going for if you don't go for anything else!  We love browsing around and enjoying the entertainers...

Maybe I can upload the other one to You Tube later... but... for now...

Today is family day!  Our family is going to hang out with those who come; we will grill, fish in our pond and play - but first we have to finish cutting down a tree and hauling it off to the pasture, plant some trees, make bbq sauce and salsa and can both of them and make a few pies... guess I have to get busy!

Reasons We Love New Orleans - The Entertatiners

There are just some things about New Orleans that cannot be explained - they have to be experienced.  I am one of those people that enjoy every morsel of what I see, what I take in and what surrounds me.  Guess you all can figure that out... right?

Everything about New Orleans touches the senses - but the entertainers are... well, amazing. That is the only word I can come up with to describe their talents!

Did you miss the video of the clarinet player above?  She was terrific!  If so, please go back and check it out!

And I will post another video tomorrow - the sounds of New Orleans... part of the charm...  :-)

My sister and her children are coming in tonight!  Can't wait to see them and we are gonna PLAY!  Don't worry - I will still be posting!

The rain is ending, the sun will be shining, family is coming and I will be outside planting!  Gonna be a great weekend!

Why We Love New Orleans - the Art

One of the many reasons we love New Orleans is the art - everywhere you look, there are wonderful things to look at, and talented artists to enjoy:

And one of my favorites - a 'self portrait':

This morning, my wonderful hubby called me on the way to work and told me to run outside and look at the sunrise.  Of course, I grabbed my camera and headed out:

We got 1.2 nano seconds of that sunshine - it immediately turned cloudy again and there is no sun to be seen now.

I will just have to work on my bright sunshiny quilt to make my day smile.  I have laid out the pieces, but I need to sew them together now:

Steve worked all evening last night to get my tourneau cover on my truck - doesn't it look great?

And that is how my day is going - how is yours?  Anyone listening?

We gotta look for that sunshine...
